Michael Dertouzos, Director of the MIT Laboratory for Computer Science,
will speak on the topic of his new book _What Will Be_, just published
by HarperEdge.
He will be introduced by the Director of MIT Libraries, Ann Wolpert.
Dertouzos has spent much of his career studying and forecasting future
technological shifts. In a 1975 People magazine article he predicted the
emergence of personal computers and their use in three out of four homes
by the mid 1990s. For over twenty five years, his Laboratory for Computer
Science has driven much of the new developments in computing, software, and
hardware.
Dertouzos last book, _Made in America_: Regaining the Productive Edge (MIT
Press hardcover, HarperCollins paperback) was the biggest bestseller in
MIT history over 300,000 copies have been published in eight languages.
This event is part of authors@mit, a series cosponsored by MIT Humanities
and Dewey Libraries and The MIT Press Bookstore. The lecture is included
in MIT's Industrial Liaison Program series "Infinite Corridors: Research
Perspectives from MIT."
