Are you looking for a way to get a lot of exercise, learn a useful
skill, strengthen your mind-body connection, and perhaps let out a
little frustration through a nice healthy kiai (yell)?

If so, the MIT karate club may be for you.

The MIT karate club has been teaching men and women traditional
martial arts for over 15 years.  We are associated with Shotokan
Karate of America (SKA), a non-profit organization led by Tsutomu
Ohshima, one the last students of Gichin Funakoshi.  Because Funakoshi
is widely credited with bringing karate from Okinawa to mainland Japan
and all black belts in SKA are personally awarded by Ohshima, each SKA
black belt is only two steps from the person considered by many to be
the father of modern karate!  There are three black belts who
regularly attend/lead our practices and as many as six may be present
at a given class.

Here's the really surprising part: SKA dues are only $75/year and
there are *no* local dues!  In addition, you can come practice with us
without having to buy a uniform or join SKA until you are sure our
group is for you.  We are now accepting new students and you have
nothing to lose by coming to check us out!

Beginner's practices are held Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 8-10
pm in the dance studio (across the hall from the Campus Police station
in W-31).

Please come dressed in non-restrictive clothing.
