Sorry Nighty, but soil does not come from rock. That is not to say that there are no rocks in soil. You are confused by the wonders of nature. Plants are wonderous. Most require soil. But not all. Some can grow in water, others in the air ( the root system), and some in rock. Plants that grow in rock have their ways to anchor and bore...the roots tap and grow, and the plant dies. But it's seeds continue the cycle. The rocks crack and break, and the plants die. The creavaces begin to fill with the vegetative material that rotts and breed bacteria. Birds fly overhead and shit. It rains. Some animals die and rot. Eventually there is enough material for other varieties of plants to take seed. Further break the rock, add more foliage and more vegetation, and so on. Eventually the big rock is covered with nutrient rich black soil. And the Rock, be it the Canadian Shield, with Millions of Hectacres of forest, or the rock is Australia. Sand is rock. Soil is not rock. But rock is present especially as minerals. Rock broken up by plants. Well in some cases glacier movement, but that is more coarse than the micro work of plants. Plants are cool. Shit they even clean our air and water, so much so that if it wasn't for them, we couldn't drink or breath it. And Vegetarians eat plants!! Why, because they don't scream when you kill them. Nothing you can actually see breeeds as fast, so how can you eat it into extinction? And most crops feed more people per hectacre than livestock. There is no higher morality or spirual insight because the creatures you choose to eat don't run free and scream when slaughtered. They die just the same! And for the exact same reasons. We are omnivorous - face it! So in this case we know the plant came first - then the soil. What, and you though the first life crawled out of the sea? Give me a break. plants make soil. See plants may be the dumbest living things, but they are the best adapted. They get their nutrient from the soil and their energy from the sun, and they recycle themselves. And they take the winter off. What a life!!
