Does this mean an ordinary electrician, or do I have to >find a special contractor? For that matter, could I do it myself? Bell's rates are indeed ridiculous. Whether you should try to do it yourself depends on what you want to do. Going through walls, for example, is tricky if you don't have the extra long drill bits that Bell engineers carry. If you don't have to go through walls, and you can use a screwdriver, telephone wiring is straightforward. You can get a guide that explains the colour coding, connections, etc, from a Bell outlet. You can buy the parts in various places, but I have found that Canadian Tire in Alexis Nihon Plaza has one of the best selections. Plan what you want, make measurements, and buy what you need -- usually jacks, wire, and insulated electrical staples to hold the wire in place. When you open an existing jack, make a note of how it's wired. It may save time to make temporary connections and try it out before putting everything in place. If you have only one phone line, arrange with a friend to call you from time to time to provide a test. >Any comments (or recommendations- know someone good?) would be welcome. I am not volunteering. Have fun, Peter
