Consider that Colorado is a hotbed of anti-woman and anti-gay activities
and organizations--spurred by James Dobson and his "Focus on the Family"
organization.  They literally believe Paul's admonishment that the woman
belongs at the foot and the man belongs at the head.

It doesn't surprise me at all that you found this situation in Denver. 
Not all Coloradoans are like that, perhaps not a majority, but at least a
substantial minority.
