I'm posting this hack to alt.sources, just in case anyone wants it (as
some indicated they did.)

This program, "nntp_poll", allows directly-connected sites which use NNTP
for newsreading to provide a newsfeed to a UUCP-connected host off their
machine. For instance

MACHINE A  <---NNTP NEWS LINK--->  MACHINE B  <---UUCP LINK---> MACHINE C

This software allows 'Machine B' to provide a newsfeed to 'Machine C' by
polling the NNTP host 'Machine A', transferring all new articles in the
appropriate groups 'Machine C' wishes to receive, and then batching them
for 'Machine C'.

This software is very primitive and stupid. It does not have a significant
amount of "configuration" files, etc., to support multiple forms of
batching or transmission for uucp hosts, similar to the various options
Cnews has. It was a very "Q&D" program which I wrote to solve my problem.

Now, if someone would like to work in conjunction with me to further
develop this software (i.e. add configuration files for multiple forms
of batching or transmission) then certainly I'm open to suggestion.
After all, I'm not really sure how widespead of a need there is for software
which performs the function that this does.
