One of the things that the company I work for does is background music.
They sell a DBS music system for $659. It includes a 36 inch dish, a 1.6
db LNB, and an audio only receiver. They're currently buying everything
from the music service at very inflated prices, I think that the price
could be lowered $75-$100 if they shopped around for the dishes and
LNBs.

ISS is using a smaller dish and a lower temperature LNB but that
wouldn't increase the price more than $150.

The only thing left is the modem. I don't know what modulation method
ISS is using, but I don't think that even an addressable modem would
cost over $500. They don't have to do all the fancy stuff that phone
line modems have to do to fit the data thru less than 3khz of audio
bandwith.

It looks to me like there is ALOT of profit in the prices they are
asking. And they are saying that that profit may only cover the monthly
fees for a year without giving us even a ballpark figure of what kind of
monthly fees they might be requiring after that.

Maybe I'm spoiled, in Minnesota the price of getting a full feed is
being willing to and capable of giving two other people full feeds, but
this sounds like it could end up costing an average of a few hundred a
month even if you spread the costs out over a few years.
