It's perfectly clear that Rich Kulawiec did an honest and careful call for votes. Can we simply drop any/all assertions to the contrary? Dave Hayes is asserting that even following the guidelines to the letter isn't good enough. He is also says that the CFVs/CFDs did not include r.m.synth in the subject line, and I have not seen anybody disagree with him (have I missed this?). So, perhaps Dave is right on this assertion. I happen to sympathize with people who ignore CFVs/CFDs that don't mention any groups they care about in the subject line. It's clear that other people disagree with me, and I respect that too. Here's my first point though: This mess would not have happened if Rich (remember, he did an honest and careful job) had mentioned r.m.synth in the CFV/CFD subject line. Dave - let me try to make a constructive suggestion: Find out who is responsible for these guidelines, and make a constructive effort to work with those folks to get them improved so that CFVs and CFDs have to have the affected groups in the subject line. That should be a simple improvement that would help future votes. Dave is also asserting that r.m.synth readers are being unfairly victimized by the vote procedures. Perhaps this is true, and perhaps not. Dave thinks it's true though, and is assembling evidence to support this assertion. Good - this is healthy. But what to do with the evidence? And who to present it to? I frankly don't really know. And it's already late in the game. Under the circumstances, perhaps the best thing to do is to remember that guidelines have been carefully worked out by good and honest people (although improvements may nevertheless be possible). Rich followed these guidelines faithfully, cooperating as best he knew how with the collective procedures of the net. We all owe Rich a debt of thanks for this - good work is all too rare in this world. Under the circumstances, I'd suggest to Dave that he acknowledge the validity of the vote, and send out his own CFV and CFD to rename it back to r.m.synth. I assume that Dave would do an even better job than Rich, thanks to what we've all learned from this experience. I'd like hope that these words will have a calming effect on what is about to become a flamefest. I have *not* put on my own flamesuit. Let's see if I become a crispy critter.
