Bull Shit...

I don't know about you but we had to pay an enrollment fee (at a public
school) and spent about $260.00 for "required" supplies. Needy families were
supplied with these items paid for by the district.

As for what various children wear.... It seems they are even more clothes
conscious than when I was in school.
If it doesn't say Timmy Middlefinger or Katfish Kline or whatever on it they
won't wear it. How are the poverty kids supposed to feel if their clothes
come from Good Will or Wal-Mart? How do you think they feel when they can't
dress like the other kids?
My daughter has a friend that comes from a single parent home she has two
other siblings. Do you think her parent can afford for her to dress the way
other children do?

So much for the poverty theory...

To start with Menonites traditionally home school their children.
Nobody is going to stop people from covering their faces or wearing certain
head gear, I assure you..
For example Christmas is not recognized in our district because there are
about 21 different cultures and religions in attendance at our schools. I
have yet to hear anyone complain about it.

might be..... Ah.. weasel words. This is laughable. New styles of clothes
come out each and every season. I suspect the opposite of your statement
would be true since the styles of uniforms would seldom change.

What school does not want to have control of their students. It is not
supposed to be anarchy.

I can't even begin to comment on how idiotic this statement is and on so
many levels.Gang colors might be ? (again weasel words). Hmmm... What else
"might" be acceptable? A confederate flag? Something anti-Semitic lets say
like a swastika.

No thank you....

What I think you meant was "Suppresses creativity" .
Depress is to drop or sink; lower. To press down.
Suppress is to subdue, curtail or prohibit the activities of.

And, this I doubt very seriously.

That is about the most racist statement I have seen all day.. So much for
the comments above about religion and cultural diversity. Incidentally, I
work with several asian americans and I can assure you they are not
"robots". Further I really think they would take issue with a statement like
that.

I am very certain of that.... Which is exactly why uniforms in some
instances are definitely a good idea.

Most places I know of the teachers have to adhere to a "dress code".
With that said. Why should they?

Well... been there done that. I seriously doubt that you actually have.

There are teenagers out there that are shooting each other in the face over
a pair of tennis shoes. There are teenagers that are committing suicide
because they feel inadequate to others.
Many parents could care less about what is going on in their kids lives or
some are completely over indulged and have no sense of humility or humanity.

That is reality ...

If nothing else uniforms give a sense of belonging and put every one on even
ground.
I am not saying that it is a good idea for every community.
It is very much so for communities where drugs, violence and gang activity
is prevalent or for communities where the students come from varying
socio-economic conditions.
