Given the circumstances, students at Texas A&M are acting alot more mature than their Ivy League counterparts at Columbia University in New York City. TAMU students held a bake sale in which minorities were charged less for cookies than whites. Columbia students did that, too, and much more. In addition to the affirmative action protest bake sale that was held at Columbia, an underground student newspaper (called "The Fed") published a racist comic strip. And as though that wasn't enough, the marching band (a group that is at most schools officially sanctioned by the university) performed a racist routine at one of its shows. So, why has the Texas A&M controversy garnered national press while only New York based media outlets are reporting on the events at Columbia? As someone who grew up in Maine and moved to Texas by way of New York City, the answer is as simple as it is troubling. The answer is that modern Northeasterners on a whole are as racist if not moreso than modern Southerners and Texans, but they are deeply in denial of it with history as their excuse. It's the sad truth.
