This is not exactly anything to do with computers. Instead, it is vaguely related to the broad subject of electronics, and I thought that someone who reads this bulletin board might be able to help me: Does anyone out there have an old-style dial phone that they want to sell or give to me? It would be best if you live in or near Christchurch, although I could pay to have it shipped from another part of the country. Alternatively, I have a new push button phone of my own as well as a disused new-style phone socket. Does anyone know how to wire this up to one of the two old-style phone sockets that we already have in our house? The old style phone sockets have four wires in them, and from memory, they are coloured white, green, blue, and red. My new style phone socket has six pins labelled 1 to 6. It also has what I think is a capacitor in it as well as a number of other components, which I am told makes it a master socket. Would it need to be modified in any way? I want to do all of this wiring in such a way as to avoid dispuption to the two old-style dial phones that are currently wired up to the two old-style sockets. Thanks to anyone who can help me on any of this. Andrew Hoy Political Science Dept University of Canterbury
