Here's the rough idea:
You get TWO wires into your house, which get split into whatever the
phones need. The older style decadic phones do most of the connection
stuff inside the box on the wall.
For the newer style DTMF (tone) phones, the white box should be wired
up like so:
Connection Point 2
|
R===============o o---
Wires In: The nice Telecom Box
A===============o o---
|
Connection point 5
o--- Connection point 3 (Not used yet)
And that's essentially it. The box concerned should be a "master"
box, which is identified either by the word "MASTER" stamped on the
box it came in, or by the fact that it has about three components on
the pcboard that the socket is mounted on. (It can be converted to
a slave box by clipping off the components.)
Now, while we're at it, to wire up a SLAVE box, you open up the master
box, connect wires to points 2, 3 and 5 and take them to the slave
box, and connect them to points 2, 3 and 5 there. (The SAME ones
as they came from)
To simplify things my Telecom paper says:
Point Number Colour
2 Red
3 Blue
5 White
Which leaves point 4 free. Now some phones used to be able to
recall using this point, but I've never bothered with it.
