Hi to you all

Got a couple of problems with my DVD that someone may be able to shed
some light on hopefully.(and excuse the length of post !!)

1st problem is finding out anything about it.

It is a MUSTEK MRM-0824. I purchased it about 6 months ago (in New
Zealand) and have been to Mustek's web site and there is no info
available at all. They do not even list it there and I have searched for
hours on their site for any info. Is it in fact made by them or is it a
rebadged model from another maker? If so can anyone shed some light on
who ? I was looking for firmware upgrade or patch for it and found
ziltch. Reason for doing so was due to problem 2......

That problem was weird behavior under win200 pro. When 2000 was first
installed it worked fine then began to refuse to eject CDs with the
button on front panel. Could only do so from windows using eject in
explorer etc.

Then one day out of the blue a dialog box popped up saying it could be
set to region of choice and changed another 4 times. I set it to 4 and
hoped for the best. It also said that no matter the OS used or even
machine used it would still limit it to 4 more chasnges. I deduced that
it must then be hardware locked and that I would be stuck with that
region.

Later on a week or 2 later it refused to read CDs,DVDs,CD-Rs etc at all.
No way would it work at all. I came to the conclusion that it was stuffed
and thought about removing it later.
I subsequently removed 2000 and went back to win98 and even then all the
above problems still remained.

Yesterday I accidentally run a diagnostics program showing DVD regions
and firmware revisions.( Drive Region Info ver 1.1) I was actually trying
to run a CDR utility and clicked on wrong one !!!! It reminded me to do
something about the DVD so I chucked in a DVD disc and was about to run a
benchmark/DVD diagnostic proggie when out of the blue Power DVD fired up
and the movie started !!!!!

So what was going on with the damn thing or is it just a stuffed unit
that will likely die soon ?
Any ideas especially what I could do to prevent it happening again.

Thanks for any ideas

I would say, sell it while it's still going, and let some other poor sod
worry about it. The quality of it could be a bit suspect. A search about
it on the net, showed up nothing.

I don't think anyone will find a firmware update at www.firmware.fr.st cause
that would be just naughty.

Un-*FU**ING*_believable........
have just rebooted the machine and now find it has reverted back to being
unaccessible. It had a CD_RW disc in it that I had copied some stuff off
earlier today and now will not read it or any other disk.

Get error message in windows as follows..

G:\ is not accessible
The device is not ready

Retry Cancel

So now am back to square one again.

Nope.

Any ideas on how to clean it myself ??

Am looking into that on Monday

Yep. Used a couple of these utilities and they all can see and talk to
the drive. Give the model no 0824 and firmware rev 1.05

Yeah I too have had the same problem. Tried all sorts of search engines
and have done all the DVD sites to death. Have even Emailed Mustek
themselves but have had no reply yet. I did find one NZ site that had
them listed still for sale so may chase that up for NZ agent.

All in all it is bloody frustrating

If it has an FCC ID on the bottom (I have yet to see a computer
peripheral that doesn't), you can enter it at
http://www.fcc.gov/oet/fccid/ to find out the real manufacturer.
