Joint Meeting - Society for Information Display
Communications Society
Computer Society
Topic: Electronic Information Display - Liquid Crystal Displays
Speaker: Larry Tannas, Tannas Electronics
June 23, Monday at 6:00pm
Jolly Roger Inn, 640 Katella, Anaheim (near Disneyland)
If you eat dinner, it cost $18 and $5 for students
Larry Tannas will give a talk on the new paradigm in Electronic
Information Display - Liquid Crystal Displays.
Mr. Tannas will talk about how the industry has shifted. LCDs have won
the flat-panel race and are approaching $10B/year in sales, whereas all
other technologies are losing market share. An event of the century has
occurred in flat-panel displays which will be discussed with market data
and examples. The talk will include the latest developments as presented
at the Society for Information Display (SID) International Conference in
Boston. Technical engineering insight on why LCDs are so good and how
they work will be given. On the other hand, he will explain why LCDs
won't replace CRTs in the near term.
Mr. Lawrence E. Tannas, Jr. is an internationally-recognized expert in
the field of electronic information displays. In addition to his many
publications and patents, he has written a book, "Flat-Panel Displays
and CRTs"; lectures extensively in UCLA Extension Short Courses and
elsewhere; and has completed several studies on the Japanese displays
industry for NSF. He is past-president of SID and has been active in
many technical societies. Mr. Tannas is president of Tannas Electronics,
a 14-year old consulting company in Orange. He comes from the aerospace
industry, employed by Honeywell, Martin Marietta, Rockwell, Aerojet, and
is a graduate of UCLA with both his BS and MS in electrical engineering.
