UUASC
UNIX Users Association of Southern California
May Meeting
----------------------------
SGI's O2 Workstation
----------------------------
Monday, May 12, 7-9 pm
Corollary Inc
2802 Kelvin, Irvine
(one block north of Jamboree and Main)
Silicon Graphics has recently announced their O2 workstation (O2 as in
oxygen, ASCII character set notwithstanding). This new system is featured
on the cover of the May Unix Review and features a base price of less
than $6K including 17-inch monitor. At the UUASC May meeting, Greg King
and Jay Martin of SGI will tell us about the features of the O2 and Brian
Larson will demonstrate it. One of the unique features of the O2 which we
will surely find interesting is its Unified Memory Architecture which
eliminates the need for separate and costly video RAM, buffers, and other
functions. Of course, the O2 runs SGI's IRIX version of Unix.
Next month (June), ALR is expected to make a presentation.
The UUASC is for all persons using UNIX either personally or
professionally, or interested in learning more about UNIX. We recognize
all varieties of UNIX, including (without prejudice) SCO, Linux, SVr4,
Solaris, AIX, and BSD. This is a good place to meet others with similar
interests and broaden your skills and knowledge. Generally, meetings
include a technical presentation on a hardware or software topic of
current interest to the UNIX community and a round-table discussion
of current topics of interest to the group. We are always looking
for interesting presentations and your suggestions are most welcome.
Please join us this month and bring along your friends and coworkers.
There is no charge for attending a UUASC meeting. Also, please forward
this announcement to others who may be interested and feel free to
post it on BBSs, both electronic and physical. If you receive more
than one announcement by email, please let us know so we can keep
our lists current. NOTE MEETING THIS MONTH IS IN THE COROLLARY CAFETERIA
AT THE FRONT OF THE BUILDING. Thanks for listening.
Check out the UUASC Web site at http://www.uuasc.org. Many thanks to
Network Intensive for sponsoring our site.
