UUASC
UNIX Users Association of Southern California
November Meeting
---------------------------------
Sun's Java Network Language
---------------------------------
Monday, November 11, 7-9 pm
Corollary Inc
2802 Kelvin, Irvine
(one block north of Jamboree and Main)
Check out the UUASC Web site at http://www.uuasc.org/~uuasc!
In the last year, the Java language from Sun Microsystems has become
all the rage. Evolving from a programming tool for "set-top" boxes,
it is now being used primarily to develop client-server applications
to run through the World-Wide Web. Sun now refers to Java as a network
language and has defined a growing number of interfaces so that Java
can work with data bases and other common tools.
At the UUASC November meeting, Mike Rede of Sun will give us an overview
of Java. He will trace its history and future development. And he will
describe how to use Java and its APIs to develop Web applications. A few
simple programming examples will be shown.
The UUASC is for all persons using UNIX either personally or
professionally, or interested in learning more about UNIX. We recognize
all varieties of UNIX, including (without prejudice) SCO, Linux, SVr4,
Solaris, AIX, and BSD. This is a good place to meet others with similar
interests and broaden your skills and knowledge. Generally, meetings
include a technical presentation on a hardware or software topic of
current interest to the UNIX community and a round-table discussion
of current topics of interest to the group. We are always looking for
interesting presentations and your suggestions are most welcome.
Coming on December 9th: Adobe Systems.
Please join us this month and bring along your friends and co-
workers. Also, please forward this announcement to others who may
be interested and feel free to post it on BBSs, both electronic and
physical. If you receive more than one announcement by email, please
let us know so we can keep our lists current. Thanks for listening.
