As a member of the FOP after the endorsement of President Clinton by the
Fraternal Order of Police I felt it was a slap in the face. Every officer
in every police department must hold himself to a higher level of
accountability. If any of us became embroiled in some of the scandals that
our president has become entangled in the best we could hope for is to be
removed from service (Fired), and as a worst case indicted.

This is surprising coming from the national FOP as all of us took
the same oath when joining our respective departments. President Clinton
can say he was endorsed by the FOP but it is a hollow endorsement, out of
all of officers and deputies I have spoken with or heard comments from not
one will cast his or her vote for the endorsed candidate. And this comes
after the president appeared with officers, who were by the way ordered to
surrender there sidearms before they could be seen with him.

This is trust?, we are here to uphold the law and to serve and protect and yet
we are not trusted by Americas chief executive. I have provided security
for, and been in the presence of various presidents, vice presidents,
dignitaries their wives and families and never have I been ordered to
surrender my weapon. After all I have seen I will have to reconsider
continuing my association with this organization.

This was a letter I sent to the Dispatch, I thought it may be relevant to
the readers of the list as it stands a good chance of not being printed.
This is a sad state of affairs for all Americans and to tell you the truth
I'm mad as hell and I'm not going to take it anymore!  At one time I
responded to the list and asked you to withhold my name, not any more.  If
the FOP cannot take my opinions that's their problem.  As for my continued
support for them, well let's just say it's marginal at best.  Please feel
free to use my name and E-Mail address actually I would be interested to
here from other officers (or anyone) about this issue.
