Yes, it was at McIver. And a grand time was had by all. Can't remember the name of a single band -- but it was the biggest happening ever in the state at the time. I just remember running around being amazed that the State was throwing this party for us! > > Late-70's local hot-spots > > were the Earth Tavern, Foghorn/Wreck of the Hesperus, Pigeon-Toed Orange Peel, > > and some big warehouse on the east side I can't remember the name of right > > now. The Earth was a real dive -- but had some great shows there over the years. (And U2 once played at the Foghorn. I think admission was $0.92. (it was a KGON "new" band show.) > Euphoria used to be hot. I remember Bonnie Raitt doing a whole month there > in about '74. Yeah, and that's the first place John Mellencamp (Cougar at the time) played in Portland. Not to mention George Thorogood. > That's because there wasn't much rock 'n roll in Oregon in the 60's. Anyone remember "The American Frog"? They were based out of Roseburg, but where one of the bigger bands in southern Oregon (and parts of N. Calif.) in the late 60's and early 70's. And don't forget "Portland", (gary ogan and ? Lamb -- I think it was bill.) And, of course, "Sleazy Pieces" were around for ever and ever. (And once upon a time Johnny Koonce was the drummer.) And another BIG Oregon act was "It's A Beautiful Day". LaFlamme was still living somewhere on the Oregon coast last time I heard anything about him. -- Randy Chase randy@kelloggcreek.com
