Hi, how ya doin'?
Damon Taylor here with a few ideas or you to consider...
Reply to me at taylor.189@osu.edu, dataylor@freenet.columbus.oh.us, please.
My friend Joe, for those of you not familiar with my circle of friends, has been working on some
gaming software for a few months now. He was working at CompuServe for more than one year
before this, spending most of his time in their programming divison.
When we went to the press screening of "Tank Girl" (agh! bad movie!), he mentioned that we
could soon start up our own *permanent* Web site -- not attached to OSU. The mitigating factors
were finances (imagine!) and hardware. He's looking to leasing space with Netcom, and this site
would have a dual purpose: Advertise the House Of Moy product line, and be a forum/information
post for Web crawlers.
My charge, such as it was, is to derive content for this site. We're looking for two main things:
Topics that are of interest to central Ohio's *obviously* net.active population, and things that would
be able to attract advertisers (and not just computer/electronics interests -- think music stores,
student groups, art galleries, etc).
So, I say: Photo (and other art) displays, 'Net-related news and views (I think I would feel
much more comfortable writing to an online audience instead of going on my screeds about the 'Net
to the general OSu pop'n, not knowing if people even have an idea of what I'm babbling about),
music reviews and news (here's where we throw in ties to mw_raves, ele mental, aum, and so on --
I'd like to see heavy ties to the electrotechno underground), special-interest (or-no-point-at-all)
forums with the ability to post messages, a weekly feature about why "The Empire Strikes Back" is
the jewel of the Star Wars trilogy (with reader input, of course), gaming (video) articles, info on how
to track down quality independent film at cheap prices ( a kind of "roving reporter" style thing, news
flashes about low sticker prices for laserdiscs at Media Play and such)...
Whew. Obviously this is stuff that's coming *right* off the top of my head. Joe just talked to
me this evening and said that there's a "nanomiracle" in the making, and that this could come to be
sooner than we expected. So we really need to get some ideas, contributions, and advertising in
motion. Ideas?! C'mon, I know you've got them...
Damon
