The members of the CA Domain Committee agreed almost two years ago
that such should be done for the CA domain. We had agreed that
"com.ca", "net.ca", "edu.ca" and even some form of "per.ca" or "nom.ca"
for personal subdomains should be implimented. (The federal government
controls gc.ca, so it's their choice of name for that one instead of
"gov.ca"). We were in the process of doing that, but then the ISP's
and the government have come along and wanted a controlling hand in
administration, so all that was shelved in favour of restructuring the
CA Domain administration accordingly. The good news is that it
includes part of what we were going to do, which is to radically
simplify the regulations - I hope that doesn't fall by the wayside
with the new body as well, given that there were a lot of public
objections to that proposal.

Personally and as a member of the CA Domain committee (which will
be replaced by the new controlling entities soon), I *still* feel
it should be implimented and have so stated in committee a number
of times. Then again, I'm not the government or an ISP with lots
of money, so the new forces may not be too interested in listening
to those of us who've been doing the grunt work and wanting to
improve the situation but were stymied.

Then again, elections are proposed for the new governing body, so
if enough people feel something should be done, there is a chance
that a voice can be installed to champion the task.
