Everytime Ralph opens his mouth he shows how little he knows. 1. Round-trip packet times for traffic from Ottawa to Toronto are app. 10ms. It would make no difference whether CIRA's server(s) were located in either city. Of course, Istop.com's customers would see a difference as Ralph is too cheap to buy guaranteed bandwidth between Ottawa and Toronto, resulting in packet loss for his customers. 2. Moving CIRA's server(s) from Ottawa to Toronto would make no difference if those servers truly are a single point of failure. "Gee - if this server crashes, the Internet in Canada is screwed. Let's move it from one city to another - that will fix things!!" Anybody with half a brain would realize that the proper solution is more servers, spread across the entire country with no single point of failure. This is how they do things in the US and it seems to work just fine. 3. Magma's website says they're building a new data center in Toronto - at 151 Front Street. Perhaps CIRA will be taking advantage of this to improve their redundancy. 4. The people that I have talked to (including a couple of folks at CIRA) have had nothing but good things to say about Magma, and from what I've heard, their Ottawa Data Center is top notch, rivaling any other facility in Canada. 5. Isn't it weird that to get to Ralph's "center of the Internet in Canada" via IStop, you have to get there by way of New York?
