Echelon Internet would like to announce its new ADSL service for
businesses. We have been testing this new service with many of our
clients since Dec. 1997 and we are now offering it to the business
community at large. Service is available immediately.

********

Business ADSL has arrived at Echelon.

ADSL is a new high speed technology that delivers up to 7.8 Megabits per
second over a plain old phone line.

Now you can bring Internet to your company at speeds close to Ethernet.
No more frustrating waits for images to appear, and downloads to
complete.

Echelon supplies all the lines and routers needed included in one
affordable price.

Echelon is the first in the region to offer this service to Businesses.

Why pay for costly T1's or IDSN, when now you can have over 5 to 100
times the speed for a fraction of the price

There are two different packages available. Prices are $499/month and
$899/month for complete Internet access.

This service is immediately available in the downtown core area of Ottawa.
Outlying area's will follow shortly.

Your Echelon sales representative will be happy to explain more about our
ADSL services, and help you find the best solution for your organization.
Contact us at (613) 820-4000 or by email at adsl@echelon.ca

ISP reseller inquiries welcome.

Mind sharing a bit of the details?
Who's equipment are you using? The downstream is 4 or 7.8 but what's
upstream?
Is there one head-end ADSL modem per customer or are you using a DSLAM?

Actually Frank, you are technically right and wrong.

True, they have a DMS 500 on Laurier, but that doesn't give them access to the
copper they need.

So, they have purchased co-location space in the Bell CO on O'connor and have
run fiber between the two. In the Bell CO they have put basically a remote
that will connect to the copper lines bell uses and backhaul it to their switch
for routing.

They are NOT pulling masses of copper lines into Laurier St. nor anywhere for
that matter. They run fiber into a building and put a remote station in each
one where there is high density, or they use Bell's copper to the location in
low density areas.

In response to the other reply by someone else, they pulled through old water
mains in Toronto, not in Ottawa. As they now own Rogers, they already have
access to most buildings in Ottawa and will use that fiber.

Rob.
