Well, here I am - back on OzEmail. A brief sojurn at OptusNet left a VERY bad taste in my mouth. So why did I leave even before the first prepaid month was up? o Lame network performance o Attrocious connect speeds (28800 at best - UNLESS I dialled the Sydney POP which served up 33600 connects) o Lack of satisfactory response to emails by "support" <laughs> staff (*) I used the phone support system, too, but only when I had an hour or so to spare (to listen to their on-hold classical music) o Ridiculous "server generated only" password system o Constant server-side problems with their account-checking interface o News server performance that made the "ye olde" OzEmail server look like a Porsche o etc etc etc (*) On 22Mar99 I sent a detailed email to Optusnet "support" outlining four of my initial concerns. It took until 2Apr99 to get a reply to ONE of the four questions. And then, the modem init string made the connect situation worse still (only 14400 connects). During this last painful connect, I leapt onto OzE's site and signed up again. Disconnect from Optusnet. Scrub their half-baked init string and other "tweaks". Dial OzEmail. "Perfect" 33600 connect first time. Ahhhh..... I know some other Optusnet users are enjoying their connectivity through them. However, my experience (using their Newcastle POP), showed only an ISP that was using a backward hardware infrastructure; employing insufficient (or incompetent) support staff and so on. I expected a customer service orientated philosphy when I signed up with a company bearing the Optus name. What I got was a completely different thing. It's nice to be "home" again. OzEmail is NOT perfect, but, having used any number of ISPs (both home and abroad) it is still leaps and bounds ahead of most (esp the smaller Aussie ones - aka "OzEmail wannabes") DJ! derek@jenkins.net http://derek.jenkins.net cc Optusnet "Support"

I agree... I've tried a number of ISP's, and I like ozemail... sure, sometimes they suck... but most of the time they give you decent service... for good prices (thanks to ozmegasaver). And when the new news server kicks in... things will be nice :-) -- Cheers, Mal "What can I say? I dig beautiful women. It's in my jeans". Yup - I used to use OzEmail in the bad old $5.00 per hour days. Thank yer lucky stars for Megasaver (in whatever flavour they make it) I say. >And when the new news server kicks >in... things will be nice :-) Oh. It's not online yet? Hmmm...the startling performance that I'm enjoying must be an illusion, brought about by the attrocious news server performance that I endured at Optarsenet. Say - anyone want to but 213 prepaid Optarsenet hours from me? ;-) Going REAL cheap!!!! DJ! derek@jenkins.net http://derek.jenkins.net

Oh come on Derek, "in here" is only the tiny, close-knit, community of ozemail.debate, alt.ozdebate, ozemail.users, alt.duh, aus.net.access Trust Incidentally, how new is alt.duh? I don't see it on loomi.telstra.net, Telstra's nntp browse server for direct customers.

Sure, Michael. Hey - I have $10K sitting here that I need looking after. If I post it to you (via an anonymous intermediary if you like) would you look after it for me?
