   As someone who has actually utilized a dating service, I can tell you
that it's quite silly to say that all people do it for a general reason -
such as not having adequate social skills, or not having the dedication to
put forth into meeting someone in a more conventional setting.  These
negative attitudes are no doubt symptomatic of the problem concerning many
singles and may explain why they are so - get positive.  It's regrettable
that many seem to have been cheated by GE, but those people utilizing
dating services should not be analyzed about having done so. In the least,
they are attempting to break out of their current situation.

   Personally, I was tired of meeting the same sorts of people, and I
wanted to increase my odds of meeting someone special.  As part of this
strategy, I also posted on this newsgroup.  A wonderfull woman answered my
post, we met after several e-mails, and we've been together ever since (7
months now). 

   I would say to call the Better Business Bureau concerning any dating
service that you are thinking of joining.  If many others have had
problems with them in the past, there will be some history that they will
make you aware of.
