>i'm looking for some good running trails in the sf area, on the peninsula >(near sunnyvale or mountain view preferably). i want to avoid paved >trails, and i would like a natural surrounding. do you know of any? On business trips to the Sunnyvale area I have 3 spots I like a lot. 1.) San Antonio ( I'm not too sure on the name, maybe its Rancho San Antonio) Park in or near Cupertino. Its a few miles from De Anza College. There are dozens of trails with a lot of wildlife to be seen along the way. Some of the trails are extremely hilly with one, called the High Meadow Trail, a 10 mile loop with great scenic views that is a real gut buster. I recall getting off a freeway (I've forgotten the number) at Stevens Creek Rd. turning right for about a mile down to Foothill. Right on Foothill to the first light and then left with maybe a mile drive. The park was located right by a cemetery. This time of year some of the trails can be quite muddy in spots. 2.) The hills behind Stanford University where the radar towers are located. A lot of the paths are paved. some of the hills are quite steep and the views of the Bay magnificent. 3.) There is a series of dikes extending out into the Bay that serve as a bird sanctuary in Sunnyvale. I recall there are miles of flat unpaved paths. A favorite running spot at lunchtime for Silicon Valley workers. The Lawrence Expressway passes right by the access to this area. Steve
