Very old water well design , can you help identify others like it

Look for similar designs in Portugal & Holland. Perhaps there were detours from the Spice Islands. I suspect it was made by an expert , probably there are others ,
perhaps identical , in design , most unusual to find this one where
it is , wonder WHY others have not questioned it long ago , the old
account about " chinamen" was accepted without question as there were
a age number of Chinese pass through in 1850s but the well was in use
before that , I suspect there will be matches found eventually
my research of the old iron tool has proven beyond all doubt that
there is VAST VAST mining activity here is South Australia 3000 years
ago

AND matches the demand at the time for tin to serve the bronze age

There were Cornish miners in the area in the 1800s
processing tin ores, if I recall, and the stonework they
built was of Cornish design.
Check out Cornwall in England.

Hi Peter
Yes Iam aware many corish miners were very active in very early South
Australia
I myself have examined most mining activty in South Australia forabout
50 years
100 years ago my grandfather owned the largest gold mine in the state
at Fabians number 1 shaft Tarcoola.
His father was the city of Adelaide Treasurer in the 1800s for many
years thomas Fabian and died in the Treasury office in Adelaide 1898
on the job
On my mothers side was an Alexander Buchanan who was the FIRST person
tho" Overland " live sheep in 1839 , from NSW or victoria , but he and
mums side were mainly up the mid north not on the coast , droving
stock into the state, and was VERY familiar with the water points in
the area as were my grand parents , but at what they referred to as
Chinamans Well there has NEVErbeen any real European activity to match
the wells appearance , other more used wells were NOT this pretty , it
is " over engineered for a "bush well" in that ERA, , it was there
BEFORE Europeans , It NEEDS an explanation IMHO, a Phoenician well
DOES make sense more that Cornish miners , who have mines in Cornwall
from long ago but no need to build such a ' fine well ' in a sand hill
a very long way from any where , THERE MAY be something Im over
looking yet, it may actually have been restored since, using recycled
ancient stone , as there are no really old photos I have yet found it
remains a bit of an anomaly in the big picture , not " quite " sitting
comfortably into the present history of the site as recorded
Im still researching
The Cornish miners were REAL experts and heir AMAZING skills are all
over the state , hired to work stone as you suggest indeed and have
fine mine works here in South Australia and every where they went ,
and MAY be the builders , although it was there too early from my
research to fit neatly into this possibility
seems where they needed a quality water well
They also invested in other Quality infrastructure , that takes most
people eye , and the " wells ' often get over looked by most visitors
Where settlement was ongoing , the wells were usually upgraded many
times , or seen as a danger and filled in as a good idea and stone
was either recycled or upgraded
Seems there are few original condition old wells and where they do
exist the buildings nearby get the attention
Ancient mines 500 plus years old look like natural surroundings
Think about the cities destroyed 500 years ago that have been
swallowed by jungles or deserts , a 3000 year old Phoenician well or
mine would only survive if buried in a sand hill like this one was ,
and only rediscovered in early 1800s
Old mines soon blend back into a natural looking state after a few
hundred years, most people could not tell apart from surrounding
country , only careful examination can reveal the un natural position
of the soils and rocks can identify most ancient mines , most of
which were actually reworked several times destroying the REALLY old
mines every few centuries , but often still visible in the position
of "tailings waste dumps" reconstruction of mines can be ascertained
by careful examination
The well remains a mystery , it MAY have been constructed by stranded
sailors while repairing their ship or waiting for rescue and no record
was made if the were not rescued or later sank , there were Dutch off
the south Coast in 1606 , Able Tasman as well , and many others too ,
i think it may be difficult to identify who or when the well was
constructed first , the stone MAY be ballast or cargo , from a ship
wreak meant for another site but called into use as water was
desperately short in a ship wreak situation
There are MANY possibilities
Still it MAY be possible to identify a match , it does look
professional , it does fit in with my other research pointing toward a
3000 year old VAST mineral Sand Mine that is what we today call the '
Coorong " lower Lakes , with a guard post at this access point ,
maybe the main access point to the ocean back then , but prone to run
out of fresh water in dry periods , workers need water to mine , and
water seems to have been what restricted their activities , all
activity had to be within walking distance of water for drinking AND
mine concentration of HMS
Keep one EYE open for ANCIENT water wells for me though Peter
IF you see anything of similar construcrtion post up a link on this

Yes Iam aware many corish miners were very active in very
early South
Australia
I myself have examined most mining activty in South
Australia forabout
50 years
100 years ago my grandfather owned the largest gold mine in
the state
at Fabians number 1 shaft Tarcoola.
His father was the city of Adelaide Treasurer in the 1800s
for many
years thomas Fabian and died in the Treasury office in
Adelaide 1898
on the job
On my mothers side was an Alexander Buchanan who was the
FIRST person
tho" Overland " live sheep in 1839 , from NSW or victoria ,
but he and
mums side were mainly up the mid north not on the coast ,
droving
stock into the state, and was VERY familiar with the water
points in
the area as were my grand parents , but at what they
referred to as
Chinamans Well there has NEVErbeen any real European
activity to match
the wells appearance , other more used wells were NOT this
pretty , it
is " over engineered for a "bush well" in that ERA, , it
was there
BEFORE Europeans , It NEEDS an explanation IMHO, a
Phoenician well
DOES make sense more that Cornish miners , who have mines in
Cornwall
from long ago but no need to build such a ' fine well ' in a
sand hill
a very long way from any where , THERE MAY be something Im
over
looking yet, it may actually have been restored since,
using recycled
ancient stone , as there are no really old photos I have
yet found it
remains a bit of an anomaly in the big picture , not " quite
" sitting
comfortably into the present history of the site as
recorded

The Cornish miners were REAL experts and heir AMAZING skills
are all
over the state , hired to work stone as you suggest indeed
and have
fine mine works here in South Australia and every where
they went ,
and MAY be the builders , although it was there too early

research to fit neatly into this possibility
seems where they needed a quality water well
They also invested in other Quality infrastructure , that
takes most
people eye , and the " wells ' often get over looked by most
visitors
Where settlement was ongoing , the wells were usually
upgraded many
times , or seen as a danger and filled in as a good idea
and stone
was either recycled or upgraded
Seems there are few original condition old wells and where
they do
exist the buildings nearby get the attention
Ancient mines 500 plus years old look like natural
surroundings
Think about the cities destroyed 500 years ago that have
been
swallowed by jungles or deserts , a 3000 year old Phoenician
well or
mine would only survive if buried in a sand hill like this
one was ,
and only rediscovered in early 1800s
Old mines soon blend back into a natural looking state after
a few
hundred years, most people could not tell apart from
surrounding
country , only careful examination can reveal the un natural
position
of the soils and rocks can identify most ancient mines ,
most of
which were actually reworked several times destroying the
REALLY old
mines every few centuries , but often still visible in the
position
of "tailings waste dumps" reconstruction of mines can be
ascertained
by careful examination
The well remains a mystery , it MAY have been constructed by
stranded
sailors while repairing their ship or waiting for rescue and
no record
was made if the were not rescued or later sank , there were
Dutch off
the south Coast in 1606 , Able Tasman as well , and many
others too ,
i think it may be difficult to identify who or when the well
was
constructed first , the stone MAY be ballast or cargo , from
a ship
wreak meant for another site but called into use as water
was
desperately short in a ship wreak situation
There are MANY possibilities
Still it MAY be possible to identify a match , it does look
professional , it does fit in with my other research
pointing toward a
3000 year old VAST mineral Sand Mine that is what we today
call the '
Coorong " lower Lakes , with a guard post at this access
point ,
maybe the main access point to the ocean back then , but
prone to run
out of fresh water in dry periods , workers need water to
mine , and
water seems to have been what restricted their activities ,
all
activity had to be within walking distance of water for
drinking AND
mine concentration of HMS
Keep one EYE open for ANCIENT water wells for me though
