<a href="http://golgi.harvard.edu/biopages.html">
The World Wide Web Virtual Library: Biosciences</a>

is is actively soliciting curators for new branches of the
Virtual Library. Please contact Keith Robison
(KRobison@nucleus.harvard.edu) if you are interested.
Currently, the following curated branches are being maintained

<ul>
<li><a href="http://gasnet.med.nyu.edu/index.html">
	Anesthesiology (Medicine)	</a>
<LI><a href="http://golgi.harvard.edu/sequences.html">
	Biological Molecules	</a>
<li><a href="http://www.colostate.edu/Depts/Entomology/WWWVL-Entomology.html">
	Entomology	</a>
<li><a href="http://www.actwin.com/WWWVL-Fish.html">
	Fish, and other Aquatic Animals	</a>
<li><a href="http://xtal200.harvard.edu:8000/herp/">
	Herpetology	</a>
</ul>

several other branches are extracted from the main list, but curated
versions would be superior. Also, several related subjects are under
different top-level headings of the VL.

Qualifications:

1) Enthusiasm. Successful candidates will do this for fun & excitement,
   but certainly not for $$$.

2) You have the ability to serve documents to the Web. If you can
   put documents on a WWW, gopher, or FTP server, you qualify on this point.
   (there are probably ways around this one also)

3) HTML-writing ability. There are many good documents on this in
   <a href="http://oneworld.wa.com/htmldev/devpage/dev-page1.html>
	JHU/APL's WWW & Developer's JumpStation	</a>

3) A subject area. Pick an area you know & love. This will help you
   a lot with finding and exploring resources. If more than one person
   is interested in working in one area, I'm sure we can figure out
   a way to sub-divide it.

4) Time. The time required depends on how big a chunk you bite off,
   and how comprehensive you make your branch. At a minimum, it should
   reference all HTML sites specific to the field plus a set of standard
   references (to the WWW VL Biosciences, for example).
   Inclusion of gopher sites (particularly those
   which do not have a HTTP counterpart) and key FTP servers is advised.
   Relevant newsgroups and their archives are also prime candidates for
   inclusion.

   You should also plan to spend time doing the following resource discovery
   approaches

   1) Receiving mail from users & site maintainers (and the VL coordinator)
   2) Newsgroups, particularly comp.infosystems.www, bionet.announce, and
      bionet.software.www (as well as any specific to your field).
   3) Web surfing for fun or work
   4) Intermittent searches of the various meta-indices
      (Veronica, WWWWorm, etc).
   5) What's New on the Web

5.  CERN has established
<a
href="http://info.cern.ch/hypertext/DataSources/bySubject/Administration.html">
    A simple set of guidelines and requirements</a>
    for Virtual Library Pages, which must be followed.
    Don't worry; they are short and mostly style guidelines.
