The CFV ( Call for Votes ) has now been issued for the proposed new
subgroup "sci.chem.analytical".

This CFV also contains a proposal to remove the existing parent
newsgroup "sci.chem" and replace it with the subgroup "sci.chem.misc"

( Note that a concurrent CFV for "sci.chem.cond-matter" does NOT
contain this proposal to remove the sci.chem newsgroup.)

*** Please vote NO to Removing/renaming the SCI.CHEM newsgroup. ***
    ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

Those readers who are not directly affected should consider how they
would react to any proposals to rename/remove their own newsgroup(s)
and either vote NO or abstain on the vote to remove SCI.CHEM.

NOTE: This particular CFV fails to point out two important things:

   1) It is possible to vote YES to the creation of
sci.chem.analytical and at the same time vote NO to renaming
sci.chem - they are entirely seperate votes.

   2) You can change your vote as many times as you wish between
now and closure of voting on 29 May simply by re-voting. Your
new vote cancels the old one.

In case you missed the CFV ( and it does happen ) here it is in full:

Votes must be received by 23:59:59 UTC, 29 May 1995.

This CFV will also be sent to the analysis-L mailing list
<analysis-L@FS4.in.umist.ac.uk> and the CHEMCHAT mailing list

CHARTERS

1. sci.chem.analytical:

Sci.chem.analytical is an unmoderated newsgroup for the discussion
of organic and inorganic analytical chemistry. This newsgroup will
provide a place for professional analytical chemists to meet and
exchange ideas. Topics for discussion will include:

 - Chromatography
 - Capillary electrophoresis
 - Separation techniques
 - Mass spectrometry
 - Atomic absorption
 - Methods of analysis

The list above is far from complete, but serves as an illustration.

Posting of advertisements by private individuals are not permitted.
Product announcements will be allowed provided they are related to
topics discussed in the newsgroup and included in followup articles.

2. sci.chem.misc (replaces sci.chem):

Because of technical reasons the newsgroup sci.chem is renamed
sci.chem.misc. This is in accordance with the advice given by
Usenet Group Advice.

RATIONALE (Submitted by the proposer)

The current level of discussion in sci.chem is not attracting
professional analytical chemists. It is difficult for a busy
analytical chemist to justify spending valuable time reading
messages concerning recipes for silly putty or requests for help in
setting up basement laboratories. A forum where analytical chemists
can meet to discuss practical problems and new developments is much
needed.

Because of technical reasons the newsgroup sci.chem is renamed
sci.chem.misc. This is in accordance with the advice given by
Usenet Group Advice.

HOW TO VOTE

Erase everything above the top "-=-=-=-" line and erase everything
below the bottom "-=-=-=-" line. Do not erase anything between
these lines and do not change the group names.

Give your name on the line that asks for it. For each group, place a
YES or NO in the brackets next to it to vote for or against it. If
you don't want to vote on a particular group, just leave the space
blank. Don't worry about spacing of the columns or any quote
characters (">") that your reply inserts.

Then mail the ballot to: jjd@primenet.com
Just Replying to this message should work, but check the "To:" line.
