Hello,

The F-CPU is a copylefted hardware design, written in VHDL by a team
of volunteers and with freedom as the main goal (hence the name).

The "Freedom CPU" development team is invited at the Libre Software
Meeting in Bordeaux, a world-class developpers-only gathering
for Free Software projects. It takes place from july, 9th to 13th
and several main "topics" are proposed, including "security" and "law".

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Informations about the LSM can be found at http://lsm.abul.org . It is
organised with the help of the European Union, the Free Software
Foundation and the french Free Software associations.

>From the LSM site :
> The goal of the Libre Software Meeting is to set up a
> single place where as many people as possible will be
> able to share information and gather their energies
> towards large scale projects. It is open to every people
> willing to contribute to "libre" software : project leaders,
> developers, translators, advanced users, etc. This event is
> absolutely non commercial: participation is free in every
> meaning of the word.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

This year's new topic is "Free Hardware" (in the sense of Freedom,
as with software) and the organizers have invited the F-CPU team
to present the project and the latest achievements. Workshops,
presentations and working sessions will be organised. The french
F-CPU association will also hold the formative assembly.

This announcement has been publicized by http://lsm.abul.org
and http://www.opencollector.org but we wish to reach a broader
audience and not focus only on the F-CPU project, which is only
one of the many efforts in the domain of copylefted hardware designs.
Many parallels exist between software and hardware design, we wish
to discuss about the similarities and differences, in the frame
of several projects. This year's LSM is a good opportunity to
strengthen the relations between Free Software/Open Source developpers
and their peers in Hardware design. Projects such as Debian, GNU/Hurd,
Perl, PHP, GNOME and even Linux often lack visibility on their "usual"
target platform and are eager for alternatives.

If you are curious or if you participate to an open source hardware
design project, you are welcome to learn, speak or participate
to the debates. Papers and presentations about free hardware projects
are also wanted. This is not an "usual/formal" conference and there is
a lot of freedom for the format and the subject.

Some of the interesting domains we want to cover are :
 - VHDL design with a "free" toolsuite (constraints, availability, openness...)
 - compatibility of the open/free cores (interface, licences, technologies...)
 - programming modern computer architecture (compiler issues...)
 - economic and industrial impact of free cores
but you may want to present something which casts a new light on today's
microelectronics world.

Contact me if you have an idea, want to promote your project, find
software developpers to help your project or wish to present a paper.

Regards,

Yann Guidon (aka Whygee)
F-CPU developper (http://www.f-cpu.org)
Co-chair for the topic "Free Hardware" at LSM2002
