The history of the entertainment industry is the history of its failing to deliver what the customer actually wants, no matter how much money could be made by doing so. Musicians objected to the Victrola. The Victrola people objected to music on the radio. The radio people objected to home tape recording. And so on. And all of the technology was enlarging their market and increasing people's interest in it, if they had only had the sense to say so! The problem for decades has been that you can't buy just *one* song. You have to buy a $20 CD with fifteen songs on it, half of which you don't like. If the music industry had been selling any song for $1, deliverable by download and freely copyable, they wouldn't have had such a problem with Napster. Most people would rather pay $1 to deal with a reliable vendor, instead of trying to find a pirate.
