You have the right idea, in general, but some caution is indicated. "IR" covers a very wide range of the spectrum, much wider than visible, and a multitude of sins. In particular, most infrared night-vision devices see *short-wavelength* IR, just below the visible. You won't get any indications of temperature out of them; thermal IR is *long-wavelength* IR. Imaging in thermal IR is much harder and the devices that do it tend to incorporate fun things like liquid-nitrogen cooling. You definitely want to rent or borrow, not buy. If your local electrical utility has any sort of conservation program, ask there first. -- Critics have long said "NASA specializes| Henry Spencer @ U of Toronto Zoology in pork"; now that's White House policy.| henry@zoo.toronto.edu utzoo!henry
