Several weeks ago I mailed a request for information on the ISO
standards on image processing and interchange. I received three very
good mail replies. It seems that it is available in Europe, but I can
not find a US source. The lady at the ANSI ordering office could not
find the number. I am including the messages that I received, but I
am not passing on some of the email contacts that they gave me. I
will continue looking for a US source and send the information when I
find one. Any additional information will be greatly appreciated.

Its very fresh ! I just ordered the Draft from the following address:
Dr. Detlef Kroemker
Imaging Rapporteur
Fraunhofer AGD
Wilhelminenstr. 7
6100 Darmstadt
GERMANY
phone: +49-6151-155-140
FAX: +49-6151-155-199
The draft is in 3 parts and amounts to 1100 pages. They take DM 150,-
for there copying costs.
I talked to the secretary of Dr. Kroemker about your posting. She tolds me
that you could connect her directly by telephone to discuss details about
delivery abroad.
Some weeks ago I discussed with Dr. Kroemker the issue whether it is possible
to make the Draft available on a ftpserver. He said that there are principal
problems because organizations like IEEE earn money by selling printed versions
of standards.
If you see a possibility to make the standards available online I would be
very interested in.
Good Luck,
Arnold

The ISO standards are the Programmer's Imaging Kernel System. They
are currently being reviewed in the US by ANSI committee X3H3.8, the
next meeting of which is being held in Lowell, MA, August 10-12. I
don't know if the document is available publicly yet. The only
public reference I have to this work is
@article[StepAboutPIK,
key=Stephenson,
title="About PIK: The Programmer's Imaging Kernel Standard",
author="Stephenson, T.",

Dear Tom,
responding to your question in sci.image.processing:
the committee drafts of all three parts of the IPI standard,
namely the Common Architecture for Imaging (CAI), the
Programmer's Imaging Kernel System (PIKS) and the Image
Interchange Facility (IIF) are available since May 1992.
The official ISO numbers are 12087-1, 12087-2, and 12087,
respectively.
Usually, standards documents can be obtained by the
national standardization bodies which is the ANSI in
your case.
Best regards,
Christof Blum
