I just read the Draft and I am really enthusiastic about it. It defines in Detail
a complete state of the art image processing package. And it is very clear and
concise (the majority of the 1100 pages are due to operator definitions). Every
operator is well defined on several pages following a general scheme.

The functional description is so complete that you literally can take the Draft
and start implementing it. Even a complete set of error messages is defined.

The development of the IPI standard has been assigned to

 	ISO/IEC JTC1/SC24/WG1/Imaging Rapporteur Group

The group just released the ISO/IEC Committee Draft (CD) 12 087. The IS Text
is expected June 1994.

The IPI Standard (functionally description) initially contains three parts:

1: A Common Architecture for Imaging (CAI)           Editor: Dr. Adrian F. Clark

2: The Programmers Imaging Kernel System (IPI-PIKS)  Editor: Dr. William K. Pratt

3: Image Interchange Facility (IPI-IIF)              Editor: Georg Rainer Hofmann

The Draft amounts to 1100 pages. API Language bindings are under development.
