WAVELET TRASNSFORM & EDGE DETECTION

Hi!

I have been doing some reading on the use of the wavelet transform for
multiscale edge detection, all of which were papers by Mallat et.al.
I have a basic understanding of the concepts behind edge detection using
wavelets, but I don't know how to actually implement it.

I am taking a course in computer vision and have done filtering with
3x3 filter operators, and also 3x3 Sobel operators. However, I would
appreciate it if anyone can give me suggestions on how I implement the
wavelet transform to edege detection. I want to apply it to 256x256x8
greymap images (PGM images). Do I use a 3x3 filter? A diffrent size?
Are the wavelet coeffs. the elements of the filter operator? What else
is there for me to know?

I appreciate all the help I can get, because I want to use this as
a class demonstration. If there are any articles on wavelets for image
processing, could you please list them?

      Thank you very much

      John
