I'm trying to implement shrinking, thinning and skeletonizing algorithms in
C for my Image Processing course. Our text book, Digital Image Processing by
Pratt (2nd ed.) discusses these but the method he decribes seems more like
'brute force ' than anything else.
Is there a good paper or text that discusses more subtle approaches to these
problems ? Thanks.

Awais.

You can read Chapter 5 in the following book:
@Book(Haralick92,
   Author="R.M. Haralick and L.G. Shapiro",
   Title="Computer and Robot Vision: Volume 1, 2",
   Publisher="Addison-Wesley Publishing Company",
   Address="Amsterdam, Boon, Don Mills, Madrid, New York,
                 Paris, Singapore, Tokyo",
   Year=1992
   )

There are many references in this chapter.

NB: The above is VOLUME 1 of series which should eventually be
in 3 volumes; but only 2 have been published so far.

I recommend Volume 2 for a more up-to-date view of Math. Morpho.
