Tying a few threads together here -- dealing with "plausible" lingusitics --
I wonder if anyone has tried to *predict* language change. I know many rules
exist for classifying linguistic drift, but have there been any notable
attempts to extend these observations into the future? (Even if they have
been *wrong*).
I know that for several years, Esperantists have noticed some definite,
unplanned changes in their (our) language. And I have heard anecdotally that
the "language" spoken in the south-eastern USA -- the old Confederacy -- is
heavily flavored with forms once prevalent in northern British, Scotc Gaelic
and Irish Gaelic.
Any info? Explanations? Rude remarks in obscure non-IE languages?
