Maybe it's that last jolt of coffee that's messing up my perception, but I'm getting the feeling that this thread is going to tilt towards LA/OC bashing at any second. It's easy to make smarmy statements about any town when you don't live there; nobody will ever catch me talking about San Diego or the Bay Area in that manner unless it's in reference to the snobbishness of some of the residents towards LA. Does it really matter, except to the original linguistic researcher who started this, whether we say "the" in front of a freeway number? Sheesh. ------------ broudy@mizar.usc.edu "My life has a superb cast but I can't figure out the plot." --Ashleigh Brilliant
