The KGO traffic reporters had a few particular spots that had pretty
pejorative nicknames ... the Alemany Maze, the MacArthur Maze, and Blood
Alley (that section of 101 around Gilroy which was non-freeway for the
longest time; its real name was Monterey Highway).  And someone on the
net said that another road (up near Pinole?) had that same nickname.

And there's always the permanent "WRECK AHEAD" at the Summit ("Patchen
Pass") of Highway 17.  Pit residents come over to Santa Cruz, spend the
day at the beach drinking beers, then try to drive home to the Pit, but
fail to make the first tricky curve after the summit.  Frequently.
