Does anyone know why the curve of Absorption Length of light in silicon versus the light wavelength has two dips in it between 200 and 400nm wavelenghths? The curve for gallium arsenide also has two dips, somewhere between 200 & 500nm. Do other materials exhibit this behaviour? My guess is that the dips have something to do with surface states -- but why *two* distinct dips? Any references?
