I am a LAbor and Delivery nurse in a hospital with 6 labor beds. We have a small medical staff and 1 Nurse Midwife. Our hospital is very progressive. This is the problem. Our Nurse midwife is very demanding and is known to feel better than anyone else. We were in a true ob emergency situation ( prolapsed cord on a 26 weeker). The nurse midwife screamed at me and told me in front of my peers and the patient that I was incompetent and to get out of the room. She has done this to me in the past and i just passed it off. I still was hurt and angry. But this time I just couldn't let it go. I went to my nurse manager and she said that the 3 of us needed to talk. We did. The midwife said that I had a real problem and if I wanted her respect than I could have it and she walked out of the room. My nurse manager looked at me and said she thought that things would be fine now. 2 days later my nurse manager manager called me and said that she had a letter she needed me to sign. I went to the hospital to read it. It full of things about how I allow peaple to upset me and intimidate me, that I was not living up to the expectations that the hospital had set for their staff, that I did not handle emergency situations well according to my peers. I now have to watch 3 videos that have to do with interpersonel relationships, emergency situations and stress-write a summary and turn it in to the VP of nursing. I have been a labor and delivery nurse for 14 years. I have never been told any thing like this in any of the other hospitals I have worked in. I have always been liked and I have always been told that I am an excellent nurse. I just can't seem to let this go. I feel that I am being asked to leave my job. Does anyone have any thoughts about this?? Robin -- "It has become appallingly clear that our technology has surpassed our humanity" Albert Einstein
