NEW FIRES BURNING
       Western states could face a string of major fire disasters this year
after a prolonged drought left forests and brush land as dry as kindling,
experts warned. So far, 19 fires have burned 901,402 acres in 10 states.
More than 2.6 million acres has burned this year - more than double the
10-year average, according to the National Interagency Fire Center in Boise,
Idaho.
       In Colorado, a more than 70,000-acre fire north of Durango was
threatening 152 homes and 206 other buildings Friday, down more than a
thousand homes from the night before, information officer Bill Hayes said.
       The fire has destroyed 56 homes, and eight neighborhoods remained
evacuated. While most of the fire was burning northeast toward wilderness,
fire crews focused on stemming its southwest spread toward Durango and its
15,000 residents. The fire was about three miles away.
       Colorado firefighters also predicted they would be able to fully
contain the 137,000-acre Hayman fire by Sunday. The woman accused of setting
the fire, U.S. Forest Service worker Terry Lynn Barton, 38, was released
Thursday on a $600,000 bond.
       And in Wrightwood, Calif., firefighters were closing in on a blaze
that destroyed four homes and burned across more than 6,500 acres about 50
miles east of Los Angeles.

A 300pp book has been written about the discovery of the Telfer gold mine by
well known Western Australian Mining Prospector and Writer, Mr Bob Sheppard.
( former President of the Australian Propectors Union _ APLA).
The book, "The Golden Rule" , was to be published last April 2002 as a joint
venture by two Australian Editors.
Due to new elements & evidences having cropped up and needing to be
included,  inavoidable delay was the result. Sorry for that !
