"every possible opportunity"? I post one opinion, and already you think you know me better than my mother. Further, if you would have asked you know that I've always voted for propositions that help build schools, jails, colleges, and highways. >You say that apartment landlords 'cannot' upgrade their buildings, but >seem to expect all hospitals to do so - even though the great majority >of hospitals are private institutions. If you don't see a grave difference between the function of an apartment and a hospital, you haven't thought about it. An apartment only serves its tenants, where a hospital has the legal and moral responsibility to treat *anyone* that is in need. An apartment serves its tenants; a hostpital, the whole community. An apartment serves a dozen to a hundred people; a hospital, hundreds thousands. If apartments were required to house homeless people and anyone who required shelter, then I would agree with you in their similarity. But they don't. Legally an apartment is a private enterprise, and hospitals are public. Hospitals may be run privately, but there are state and federal requirements that the treat anyone they can, regardless of their ability to pay. >And, although I'm sure you're too young to have been of voting age >when Prop. 13 passed, if it were being decided today you'd be >in favor of it. I and my family voted against Prop. 13. It wrecked the schools. Thanks for asking, once again.
