Postdoctoral positions are available in the area of optical biomedical
imaging at the Massachusetts General Hospital in the Wellman
Laboratories of Photomedicine. Mass Generals role as a leading
teaching affiliate of Harvard Medical School and close ties to Harvard
University and MIT provide an outstanding environment for the
development of cutting edge biomedical technologies and their
implementation in clinical research. Candidates with strong backgrounds
in physics and engineering are sought to join leading efforts in the
development of new optical diagnostic techniques such as optical
coherence tomography and confocal microscopy.

The Wellman Laboratories of Photomedicine is located on the campus of
Massachusetts General Hospital and is a unique environment that
integrates physics/engineering and medicine. Recently a new center has
grown from Wellman, the Center for Innovative Minimally Invasive
Therapy (CIMIT). CIMIT is composed of both clinicians and scientists
and focuses on the clinical implementation of cutting-edge
technologies. The academic core of CIMIT is composed of faculty of
Harvard Medical School and MIT.

We are currently hoping to fill two post-doctoral positions associated
with ongoing projects in the development and application of optical
coherence tomography (Opt. Lett. 24, 531 99), spectrally encoded
confocal microscopy (Opt. Lett. 23, 1152 98) and other new optical
diagnostic technologies. These projects combine technical and clinical
components and involve participation in dedicated multidisciplinary
collaborations.

Requirements:
A PhD (or equivalent) in Biomedical Engineering, Physics, Electrical
Engineering or a related field is required. Demonstrated excellence in
one or more of the following areas is desirable: optical imaging
systems, optical design, optical system fabrication, fiber optic
systems and components, ultrafast laser source development,
electronics, computer programming, image processing, mechanical design
and machining. Creativity is also highly desirable. Although the
positions require participation in the ongoing projects, highly
motivated candidates will be encouraged to pursue new concepts and
ideas.
