Studying Protein Synthesis/Translational Control

The mechanism and regulation of protein synthesis are being studied.
Emphasis is on a novel translation factor recently identified in yeast
and mammalian cells (see Science 280: 1757 (1998); PNAS 96:4342 (1999);
Nature 403:332 (2000)). Additional projects examine translational
regulation by phosphorylation of factor eIF2 by yeast and mammalian
kinases, and inhibition of these kinases by viral regulators. Studies
will involve biochemistry, molecular biology and genetics in yeast and
mammalian systems. Applicants must have a PhD and/or MD and less than
five years of postdoctoral experience.
