A postdoctoral position is available November, 2002, to use a newly
developed technique for monitoring protein-protein interactions
(Bioluminescence Resonance Energy Transfer, or BRET). This technique
has significant advantage over two-hybrid screens or FRET methods. We
developed this technique (PNAS 96: 151-156) for circadian clock
proteins (i.e., biological clock proteins) in cyanobacteria, but are
now adapting it for use on clock proteins in other organisms (esp.
mammalian cells in culture). We are also characterizing BRET reporters
for Ca++, cAMP, and other molecules. Experience with molecular
genetics, protein interaction assays, and cell transfection is
necessary, experience with microscopy and fluorescence is desirable.
There are excellent facilities and collaborations available within the
Vanderbilt University system and Nashville is a comfortable city for
living.
