Charles,
The space station is quite bright these days (due to the new
solar panels?). My pass last night, for example, was magnitude -0.4
according to Heavens-Above but I am quite sure it was much higher than
that (I would say at least -2). I would be very surprised if your light
pollution is so bad that it cannot be seen.
I suggest you identify your precise location coordinates and
consult Heavens-Above (www.heavens-above.com) for precise pass times.
