More HST images have become available as of today. The images are of much higher quality than the original releases (higher resolution) and many include titles and descriptions with the images. Images are from both the WFPC/2 and FOC/Costar. They are available through ftp and gopher at SEDS.LPL.Arizona.EDU (128.196.64.66) in the /pub/images/WFPC2 directory. Here is the 00Index file from the site: (originally from stsci.edu) File Name Size Instrument Object --------- ---- ---------- ------ FOC1068Color.gif 420x500 FOC/COSTAR NGC 1068 active galaxy FOC1068Comp2.gif 1133x768 FOC/COSTAR NGC 1068 active galaxy FOCNovaCyg.gif 659x480 FOC/COSTAR Nova Cygni 1992 FOCpsfBW.gif 1024x768 FOC/COSTAR FOCpsfSurf.gif 1024x768 FOC/COSTAR fortuna.gif 614x346 PC Asteroid 19 Fortuna m31c.gif 1132x769 M31 galaxy composite mars.gif 512x512 WF/PC Mars, composite color marsb.gif 512x512 WF/PC Mars, blue frame marsg.gif 512x512 WF/PC Mars, green frame marsr.gif 512x512 WF/PC Mars, red frame ngc1741.gif 849x615 FOC NGC 1741 starburst in galaxies ngc2440.gif 700x700 WF/PC NGC 2440 ngc4261.gif 459x427 WF/PC NGC 4261 galaxy ngc6624.gif 466x243 FOC NGC 6624 globular cluster ngc7252.gif 512x512 WF/PC NGC 7252 (Atoms for Peace Galaxy) novacyg.gif 256x256 FOC Nova Cygni 1992 orib.gif 680x524 WF/PC Orion Nebula, blue frame orig.gif 680x524 WF/PC Orion Nebula, green frame orir.gif 680x524 WF/PC Orion Nebula, red frame <Original Releases> WFPC-PIX.PR 5K Release/Hubble WFPC-II first images #9405 1/13/94 WFPC-01.GIF 114K Hubble/WFPC-II image M100 galaxy before/after 1/13/94 WFPC-02.GIF 119K Hubble/WFPC-II image M100 galaxy and inset 1/13/94 WFPC-03.GIF 183K Hubble/WFPC-II image M100 Cepheid stars 1/13/94 WFPC-04.GIF 114K Hubble/WFPC-II image R136 cluster and inset 1/13/94 WFPC-05.GIF 105K Hubble/WFPC-II image star ground/before/after 1/13/94 WFPC-06.GIF 126K Hubble/WFPC-II image Eta Carinae 1/13/94 WFPCIN01.GIF 145K Astronaut Hoffman during WFPC installation 1/17/94 WFPCIN02.GIF 154K Astronauts Musgrave, Hoffman install WFPC 1/17/94 WFPCIN03.GIF 125K Hubble Space Telescope about to be released 1/17/94 --- -Chris Lewicki Chrisl@LPL.Arizona.EDU Maintainer of SEDS.LPL.Arizona.EDU 'Legendary' Mars Observer GRS Flight Investigation Team UA SEDS President SEDS-USA Director of Special Projects

For users in UK/Europe, these files are available by anonymous ftp from ftp-hst.ast.cam.ac.uk in hst/pictures. Note that, as other posters have pointed out, there aren't really that many post-refurbishment pictures. [I've set the followup to sci.space; this isn't really appropriate for sci.image.processing etc.] David Robinson. (drtr@mail.ast.cam.ac.uk) [UK-HST Support Facility]
