Hi all,
I am looking for a data analysis software to run under Windows. I need
to be able to both analyze the data then present it in an attractive
fashion.

Possibilities include StatView, JMP, and MathLab. Does anyone have a
particularly good or bad experience with these ?

My wish list is:

1. Macros
1.1. Open several different files
1.2. Extract the desired information
1.3. Manipulate the extracted information using the following
calculations on pre-determined segments:
1.3.1. Standard deviation
1.3.2. Mean
1.3.3. Median
1.3.4. Find the position of the central 68% of the population
1.3.5. Standard mathematical operations and transcendental functions.
1.3.6. Analysis conditions established in one data set may be carried
forward to another data set.
2. Present results
2.1. Histogram
2.2. (X,Y) plots
3. User interactions
3.1. Choose a macro to run
3.2. Batch processing a list of data files
3.3. Re-scale of axes
3.4. Lasso or tag points of interest
3.5. Re-caculate results based upon modification of key parameters.
Ideally this would be through a pop-up box or other graphic embedded
into the results window.
3.6. Sophisticated features can be hidden if necessary from an
unsophisticated user.

Sorry if that is hard to read :-|

Thanks for the information, Paul Hayter

You might try Axum Technical Graphics and Data Analysis
software by Trimetrix, Inc. I have found this to be the
best package available for combining flexibility and ease
of use. I have used this program since version 1.0, and
have only been pleased with it. The company is not one of
the big names, but Axum is compatible with just about any
Windows software out there and it makes document
incorporation a breeze.

I am not connected with the company in anyway. I am a
returning grad student and a former tech writer and
auditor, and a really happy customer.

I have also heard pretty good things about MathCad, but I
can't vouch for it personally.

Good Luck,

Robbin
