PCR analysis of a patient with clinical prostatitis indicates a novel organism found in biopsy tissue obtained from the perineal route. I have not been satisfied with the microscopy on this case and and seeking electron microscopy of the semen to see if phagocytosis of organisms can be seen inside the white cells, as there is significant leukospermia. With light microscopy phagocytosis is believed to be seen by some but there is not interobserver reliability with this technique. Interestingly, even sperm banks do not look at specimens for phagocytosis of bacteria, in fact they seldom if ever use over 400 power. This has made finding reliable examiners for light microscopy difficult. If anyone has expertise or capability of handing such microscopy, especially electron microscopy, please contact me by e-mail. The question remains, can this novel organism be seen without a doubt by microscopy in the semen of this patient, outside of or more importantly within the white cells?
