Subject: 3/4 Faculty Positions in Chemistry at Youngstown State University

The Youngstown State University Chemistry Department is pleased to
announce 3 or 4 new faculty positions that are currently being advertized
in Chemistry and Engineering News (Nov 28th issue). The text of that add
follows:

     YOUNGSTOWN STATE UNIVERSITY
Faculty positions - Chemistry. Due to retirements,
YSU anticipates three-to-four tenure track positions,
likely at the Assistant Professor level, to begin Sep-
tember 15, 1995. Ph.D., and a strong commitment to
undergraduate and MS-level teaching and research
required. All areas of chemistry will be considered
with preference given to experience and interests sat-
isfying teaching and research needs particularly in
environmental chemistry, materials, and spectrosco-
py. Send current resume, official academic transcript,
statement of planned research, and letters from three
references to: Dr. Thomas Dobbelstein, Chairper-
son, Department of Chemistry, Youngstown State
University, Youngstown, OH 44555. Screening of ap-
plications to begin January 9, 1995. YSU IS AN EO/
AA EMPLOYER.

YSU has a student body of about 14,000 undergraduates and about 1400 MS
students. The chemistry department has 17 full time faculty and 4
support staff and offers AB, ACS approved BS, and MS degrees in
chemistry. We have also recently started an environmental science program.
The departments primary mission is undergraduate education but faculty
are also expected to have active research programs and to contribute to
our service mission. We currently have about 15 MS students.

The Department is VERY commited to having state of the art
instrumentation available for teaching and research and is well equiped
with current generation equipment and lab fascilities. Two recent
aquisitions which reflect this commitment follow:

X-Ray Diffraction Lab. This state-of-the-art fascility which was
partially funded by a NSF-DMR grant and is now being established. Equipment
on order includes TWO NEW Single Crystal X-Ray Diffractometers, a low
temperature device, and an area detectors (multi wire), as well as a
polarizing microscope, two top end pentium data stations and access to SUN
and supercomputer fascilities, the CCDB, etc.

NMR Lab. This is equiped with a brand new Varian Gemini-2000 400 MHz NMR
spectrometer and includes and extra SUN data station, low temperature
system, full multinuclear capabilities, a 5mm broadband probe, a 10mm
broadband probe, etc.
